Course Overview

The PhD programme in Engineering is designed to promote advanced research, innovation, and scholarly excellence in specialized engineering disciplines. It emphasizes independent research, critical analysis, and the development of original contributions to knowledge. The programme includes coursework, comprehensive examinations, and rigorous research leading to a doctoral thesis. Candidates are guided by experienced supervisors and are expected to publish research outcomes in reputed journals. The regulations ensure quality, ethical research practices, and timely completion in accordance with university standards.

1.Minimum Qualification for Admission Ph.D., in Engineering Programme:

  • 10+2+4+2 (pattern of studies) or any equivalent in Engineering degree.
  • 10+2+5-year Integrated M.Tech. programme, Integrated M.S Programme in Engineering.
  • 10+2+4+1 for Ph.D. in Engineering.
Eligibility:

Master's degree in Engineering / Technology in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (of all the years' semesters) wherever marks are awarded, or a CGPA 6.5 on a 10-point scale in cases where letter grades are awarded or Equivalent qualifications like M.Sc. (Engineering)/M.S. [By Research] / M.Tech. [By Research]. M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. (IT), and MCA degree holders are eligible to apply for a Ph.D. Programme in Computer Science Engineering / Information Technology. For all research programmes, it is mandatory that candidates should have studied their previous degree programmes (UG and PG) in the regular, full-time mode

2. Minimum Qualification for Admission Ph.D., in non-Engineering Programme

  • 10+2+3+2 (pattern of studies) or any equivalent in Non-Engineering degree.
  • 10+2+5 year Integrated. M.Sc. (Maths / Physics / Chemistry/English) in Non-Engineering degree.
Eligibility:

Master's degree in the relevant discipline of science with a minimum of 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.5 on a 10-point scale is mandatory.

For Ph.D. in Languages: Master's degree in the relevant discipline of Social Sciences and Languages with a minimum of 55%marks or a CGPA of 5.5 on a 10-pointscale is mandatory.

Candidates with the following qualifications are eligible for registering for Ph.D.:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • English

3. Direct PhD in Engineering Stream after UG Programme:

  • 10+2+4 or 5 (pattern of studies) or any equivalent degree in Engineering degree.
Eligibility:

Graduates must have an outstanding academic record in their Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology is eligible to apply. A minimum of 75% marks or a CGPA of 8 is mandatory on a 10- point scale.

4. Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

Essential Qualifications: Eligibility to apply for Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF).

The candidate should be a PhD degree holder.

Candidate with PhD Thesis submitted may also apply, but before joining the PDF program, he/she will be required to produce the certificate of award of PhD Degree from his/her University/Institute.

All the degrees acquired by the candidate must be in first class (starting from bachelor's degree onwards), with at least one degree from Centrally Funded Institute – University (CFI-U)/ Institute of Repute.

The candidate should apply within five years after completing his/her PhD Degree.

In the exceptional case, this condition may be relaxed, subjected to the approval of the University. The maximum age of the candidate should be up to 35 years. Relaxation in age will be as per Government of India norms.

Period of Engagement

The duration of the fellowship will be normally for a period of 2 years. However, initially the offer will be made for one year and extendable for one more years based on performance evaluation. Review will be conducted every year.

  • A teaching load equivalent to 4 Credits / 8 hours per week will be assigned to the postdoctoral fellow along with the other related academic activities.
  • The postdoctoral fellow is expected to assist the Mentor in writing the external project proposals for funding. Apart from quality research work, postdoctoral fellow will also be encouraged to write funding proposals along with the Mentor.
  • Post-doctoral fellows are eligible to act as Co-guide for B. Tech/ M. Tech students along with his/her Mentor. 5. Targets to be Achieved during the Period of Engagement
  • Minimum of one SCI/SCIE publication and 2 conference papers in Scopus per year with the postdoctoral fellow as the author must be communicated/accepted/published. The fellowship may be terminated at any time by the Institute if the progress/ conduct of the candidate is unsatisfactory by giving one-month notice to the postdoctoral fellow, on the recommendation of Mentor & subsequent appropriate authority. Any rights related to the IP generated out of post-doc research are as per the Institute's. IPR policy published from time to time.

Fellowship:

Scholarship/ Fellowship/

  • A fellowship amount is fixed by the management. No other allowances will be provided by the Institute. However, in case, if the fellowship is extended for the 3rd year, the fellowship shall be same.
  • The fellowship offered is purely temporary in nature and the Institute will have the right to review the fellowship based on the performance/conduct of the fellow. Similarly, the postdoctoral fellow must give one month's notice if he/she wants to leave the fellowship.
  • The postdoctoral fellows engaged by the Institute will not be eligible to receive any other fellowship from government/non-governmental sources during the period of his/her engagement. d. If the candidate resigns from the post-doctoral fellowship before expiry of term, the candidate will have to give either one-month notice or deposit one-month fellowship to the Institute for the same.

Eligibility for Mentor:

  • The proposed Mentor should be PhD with at-least 5 years of post-PhD experience in Academics/ Research & Development/ Industry.
  • The Mentor should be holding the post of Associate Professor or higher.
  • The Mentor should be working in the proposed/ similar area and should have proven record of publications in SCI/ SCIE/ SSCI indexed journals in the proposed area. The Mentor should have at-least 10 publications in SCI/ SCIE/ SSCI indexed journals in the past 5 years.
